This 300 litre Fluid Category 5 Tank fitted with a Type AB-Air gap with weir overflow (Fluid 5) which is a non-mechanical backflow prevention for inlets up to 32mm. Many water authorities demand that water storage tanks connected to the mains water supply have suitable measures to protect the mains from contamination. The AB Airgap is designed to prevent the inlet ever being able to become submerged and have a possibility of contaminating the mains water supply if there was a backflow pressure drop in the mains that would cause it to water from the tank to be sucked back into the mains. These tanks are made from rotationally moulded polyethylene, fitted with a cowled overflow to prevent ingress of light into the tank and stainless steel mesh. Larger weirs can be specially made for larger inlets.
This arrangement of fittings for compliance with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 in England and Wales and the technically identical Scottish Water Byelaws 2004. The installation and use of cold water storage cisterns and sectional tanks connected to the public water supply must comply with these conditions.
This potable tank is WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) approved, available as an insulated option and is supplied with the screened overflow and weir installed to meet the requirements of WRAS Fluid Category 5 Break Tanks, also known as a Fluid Cat 5 break tank, Fluid Cat 5 tank and Fluid Cat 5 booster set tanks.
